Get ready for tax time!

I am proud to say that I am prepared for filing my taxes and this is the earliest I have ever prepared.  Tax prep has never been a priority until just before spring break the first week of April each year.  End of March each year has always been, "don't talk with mom, she's getting our taxes ready", time.  After taxes are filed, then we can relax on spring break vacation.

This year was different.  A decision was made to attack unpleasant tasks early on so procrastination doesn't set in.  A few years ago, I recognized that I despise looking at piles of receipts that were waiting to be sorted, so the 'basket plan' was designed. Easily accessible, decorative baskets were located on high shelves so that receipts could be dumped into them as they were collected but controlled the clutter that induced anxiety.  The baskets are emptied into large envelopes when tax prep organizing occurs.  Piles of receipts are eliminated and the stress of taxes is drastically reduced.  This also reduces the possibility of missing a crucial deduction.  The most difficult task was teaching my husband to use the system.
