How to avoid a money pit

It's hard to admit after you've invested thousands of dollars in fixing problems, that you may have made a mistake when you purchased your home.  If the arched doorways charmed you into thinking the cracks in the ceiling were part of the home's character, you may have a money pit.  If you were enchanted by the original cottage windows in a 1950's property, don't sacrifice inefficiency for character.  If the new appliances distracted you from the many areas of cracked floor tile, you may have a money pit.   Your only opportunity to avoid the mistake of purchasing a money pit, is before you sign your name and own it.
